Bew-burries

I was so proud of us yesterday.  We were out of the house before 9 am.

I know.  I should have told you to sit down first!

It was literally an incredible feat for us.  We don't even make it out of the house before 9 am when we go to first service at church on Sunday, which starts at 9 am and is a 10 minute drive.  Mornings just aren't my thing...never have been, never will be.

The event that inspired this epic feat was the first day of the blueberry season.  A friend invited us to go and I promptly accepted, even knowing that the meet-up time of 9 am would be tough.  You see, blueberries are Sweet Pea's ever-so-very-favorite-snack-in-the-whole-wide-world, except maybe ice cream.  Or french fries.

She is a lot like me.

In spite of leaving so early, it took a little longer to get out to the field than I expected.  The drive was longer, the trolley ride I didn't know existed took 20 minutes, etc.  So by the time we actually got to the field, our friends were pretty much ready to go.  I was bummed that we didn't get there sooner, but then I realized something.  I didn't realize how infrequently Sweet Pea and I do fun, special events just the two of us.  We go lots of fun places and try lots of new things, but we never fail to invite a friend- that's just how we roll.  We love friends!  We also spend tons of time together just the two of us, but it's running errands or hanging out around the house or maybe walking to the park.

This is a really fun stage (haven't I said that at every stage?), and my baby girl is just so much fun to hang out with.  She's bright, she's inquisitive, she's funny.  I love seeing the world through her eyes, and when she has my full attention- not sharing it with groceries or the vacuum or the tv- we both learn new things.

She ate faster than I could pick.
I think she honestly ate her weight in blueberries.

Then she realized she could forgo the container and eat right off the plant.

One make it in...

Two go back out!

Right after I snapped this she picked up the whole container and dumped it back into her mouth.  I didn't get a picture of that because I jumped in to stop her and save her from potentially choking.  Good call, mom.

What is it about water from a different place that is so appealing to kids?

I tried to give the checkout girl extra money to pay for all of the blueberries Sweet Pea ate.  She told me not to worry about it, and when I insisted she said she was just glad we had a good time but wouldn't take extra.  We left with $1.15 worth of blueberries.  She ate them this morning and was mad when they were gone.
