Back-to-School Photo Sessions (and a giveaway!)

(Subject to availability.  Session locations limited to the DC metro area and at the photographer's discretion.)

I have done my best to systematically destroy the evidence of nearly all of my school pictures.  Let's face the facts; school pictures, while a quick and easy solution for yearbook photos and school IDs, just don't take the cake.  How can they?  Those poor photographers have all of 25 seconds to snap each kid's photo and hurry them along.  If you're lucky, you might get to glance in a hand mirror and run a plastic comb through your already-been-to-gym-class hair.  If you're really lucky, a kind friend might point out your crazy cowlick or the mascara smudge on your eyelid.  (If you're under 12, forget even that!)  All you get is a "One-two-three- SMILE!" and-poof!- it's over for another year.

Investing in portraits of your children is a great way to capture who that child really is at their given stage of life.  It's memories that make you smile, cherished art for your home, and sweet stolen moments kept forever.  Hanging a portrait of your family on the living room wall is like hanging your diploma in your office; it's a testament of who you are and where you're going.  Only it's way prettier!

So, book now and get some back-to-school photos of your family or kids that you'll actually hang in your home.

Ready for some good news?

Fields of Green Photography is giving away one free limited portrait session to one random commenter!  This package is the same as the package in the ad above, minus the prints.
The package includes:
- One 45-minute portrait session at any location in Montgomery County, MD for up to five people
- One CD of 15-20 images with use release (for personal printing and social media)

(If you book a back-to-school session with us before the giveaway ends and you win, your session will be free!  We'll even throw in the 4x6 prints of each of your images that come with your booked session for free, too.)

(Please note that the winner obviously needs to be able to travel to Montgomery County, MD in order to "redeem" the package!  The winner also needs to be able to redeem her or his session before November 20th, 2011.)

You can enter one (or all) of five ways:
1.  Leave a comment telling us what year you had your worst school picture and why it was so awful.
2.  Follow this blog publicly through Google friend connect, and leave a separate comment telling us you are a "follower."  (Sorry, "follower" just sounds creepy to me!)
3.  Share this post on facebook and leave a separate comment telling us you did.
4.  Blog about this giveaway, including a link, then leave a comment with a link to your post.
5.  Bonus:  If your blog post includes one of those aforementioned awful school photos, you get another entry!  Just leave yet another comment telling us your post has your school picture.

Comments and the giveaway will close Saturday, September 10 at 8 pm EST.  Winner will be chosen some time Sunday.

Enter away, friends!  We're excited to give one of you a free shoot!

To schedule a session, e-mail fieldsofgreenphoto@gmail.com and let us know you saw our ad!

  1. My worst picture had to be 8th grade, a combo of a bad haircut, braces, and a friend talking to me during the shot so I look cross eyed ended up with the worst shot of all. I hope I win!!

  5. Can I win even if Ellie isn't starting school yet?

Um, one year I had my headband falling down and braces. I think it was 7th grade. But ya know what's worse? My license. I look like a serial killer.

  12. So true with the school pics! In Amelia's picture from last year, she has that horrible awkward smile that's not really a smile! But you wanted my worst picture, not one of my child's! I think 4th grade, because of my glasses and hair (Mom went along with my desire to have 2 braids for my picture - not sure why I wanted that hair style!). Thanks for the chance to win!!! :)
ps ~ When William looks at the scrapbook, he only wants to look at the pics you took last year and see himself on the tractor and with the horses!! We love those pics!

  16. Well I have lots that are pretty bad but the one that makes me laugh the most is: 6th grade. White turtle neck. Tan suede vest (?!). Necklace strategically placed to dangle out from the top of my turtle neck. Round glasses. Braces. Big round bangs. And I mean big. (I'm laughing just thinking about it)

  18. 7th grade. My hair couldn't decide if it wanted to curl or be straight. Despite the red turtleneck sweater that I loved, my baby fang that was outside the realm of my braces, and my flyaway hair, the photograher still managed to snap the picture when my eyes were at half mast.
    I left a similar comment on FB. ;(. ~ Danielle G.

  20. My worst was 7th grade when I completely forgot it was picture day so I wore my hair in a pony tail and a giant Superman t-shirt that should have never even been worn out of the house! <3 love you all

  21. 4th grade = worst picture. BAD PERM. Yes, 4th grade--and a perm. And no conditioner. Uh-oh. LOL

My worst picture was in 10th grade when I was growing out my bangs. My hair was parted in the middle and I had to clip them down because they were too long to leave out and too short to fit behind my ears. Also in the picture I look really dazed...guess I wasn't ready yet. It's so bad.

Kindergarten was my worst school photo- my mom had me rocking a bowl cut, and it just wasn't my look! I looked like a boy from the 70's. cruel!

it's a tough call, but probably 5th grade when my aunt (a self-proclaimed "hair stylist") wanted to give me a cool and very trendy haircut for the new school year. This edgy new look had been around for a while, but everyone else just called it a crew cut. A 5th grade girl with a crew cut looks remarkably like a 5th grade boy with a crew cut. I will try to forgive the photographer for calling me "son" despite my wearing of a hideous yellow floral shirt! This is the photo my father insists on keeping up in his office still.

In 7th grade my picture was so bad that my mom would not buy them. I put a head band on just before the camera snapped.

  29. My worst picture had to be 8th grade, I thought it would be really awesome to put a ton of "sun-in" in my hair a couple of days before...it was bright orange..and frizzy...and i had awesome acne..it was awesome.

My worst year for school pictures was 3rd grade. I decided to cut my own bangs...they were in my eyes and bugging me! Let's just say my mom still loves to pull that one out for laughs!

My worst picture was in 12th grade! I had a cock-eyed smile with braces, my eyes were just about closed, and I had just gotten a bad haircut that looked eerily similar to one I had in 2nd grade. I don't remember what I was wearing, but it didn't really matter because everything above the neck already wasn't workin for me! It was so bad that I didn't even buy my senior year book so that there would never be a record of it in my home down the road!
