An Apple a Day (and a small business shout-out)

Oh, little blog.  You've been so neglected!  How ironic is it that whenever more is going on in our lives that I want to remember, I record it less?  The past couple of weeks have been such a flurry of fun, happy activity that I don't even know where to start.  Photography high season is in full swing, which is good and busy.

The day after my husband's race, we planned to take it easy and sleep in.  Maybe skip church.  Our baby had other plans, and woke up an hour early.  So we went to early church, then had a couple of hours to kill before a birthday lunch party.  And so, in typical Smith-family spirit, we made spontaneous fun.  We stopped at the grocery store for cheese and crackers and skipped off to the apple orchard to snack and pick apples.

I love this orchard.  They use as little pesticides as possible, and the few they use are natural and safe.  Their apples are beautiful; real apples of all shapes and sizes and lovely, blotchy spots.  The orchard is small and gorgeous and the fruit delicious.  We were heartbroken (okay, fine- I was heartbroken) when we discovered our other favorite orchard doesn't do pick-your-own anymore.  But this place?  It's even better than the old one.

Rock Hill Orchard in Mount Airy, MD, man.  It's where it's at.

Three cheers for local small businesses!

And hip hip hooray for babies who love to pick fruit!

There was just something special about that morning that I want to remember.  Something about being so incredibly tired, but jumping ahead into spending time together as a family anyway was just where it's at.  Also?  I have a whole drawer full of apples that are still crisp and delicious!
