My old room

If you guessed my parents' house was where we were staying, in my in-the-process-of-being-redecorated old room, you guessed right!  We housesat for a few days and it was really fun.

It's a weird thing to know your parents are making over your old bedroom.  I mean, it's not like it's too soon or anything; I am 27 and I do own my own home and I have been married for almost four years.  But still.  It's weird!  It's a little less weird though when the maker-overer has such lovely taste.  She's had a plan for the room since I moved out.  "French and birds," she says, "in black, white, and raspberry red."  Well, with the zillion other projects she has going on, this one has been on hold for ages. I can't wait until it's all finished, but it's still cute in the meantime!

That thing in the lower right corner is my bathtub chair.  I asked for a clawfoot tub for my 17th birthday and my daddy got me one.  In it's former life, it lived outside of a bait shop in Frederick and was filled with dirt and worms.  He got it for me, used a diamond blade saw to cut out the side, then my mom and I painted it.  I painted the claws on the feet red, of course.  I love that thing.  It weighs a trillion pounds though and isn't exactly practical in my own house, what with an about-to-crawler living there.

The six frames on the left have a funny story.  My mom was at the thrift store and saw a pile of basic black frames on a shelf.  She figured, "Hey, who doesn't need basic black frames?" and bought them assuming she'd find them a home.  She didn't look carefully at them, and she almost only bought four, but ended up grabbing all six.  When she got home, she looked at them more carefully and realized that when all laid out together, they make up a map of Paris.  So perfect for her French-themed bedroom!  It's like it was meant to be.

So now I'm kind of jealous and I want this to be my room again.  It's so crisp and pretty and it's only going to get cuter.  There's a black wire mannequin in another corner all decked out in old jewelry and an apron.  I like that my mom kept it girly and cute and in a style she knew I'd still like, because after all, I'll probably be the one staying here the most anyway!
