Let there be Light

I love brightly lit rooms.  Honestly, one of the reasons I accepted the last job I had was because the whole backside of what was to by my classroom was lined with windows.  It changed my working life.  The view was nothing special, but the light!  Oh, the light!

I need light around the house, too.  My mom barely has any curtains in her house.  Shades in bedrooms, of course, but curtains?  We don't need no stinkin' curtains!  "No curtains, lest you block out the day," is written in huge letters in her sunroom.

I don't like having our downstairs curtains open.  See, at my mom's, out in the country, there's no one to see in your house.  Not so in our little townhouse community.  But I hate have the curtains always drawn.  So here is my very happy solution that is making a huge difference in my life:

We just stuck a tension rod about 3/4 of the way up the big front window, then hung sheer (but not too sheer!) curtains.  It's SO much brighter in here.  I love it.

We (ahem, ok, my wonderful hubby!) also put up the clear plastic-wrap window insulation last night. SO much warmer, too!  You've got to do this on your windows, especially if your windows are older like ours.  Just hope that your cat doesn't decide to reach up and scratch at them, wanting to play with the curtains on the inside, effectively popping your perfect plastic.  Thanks, cat.
