Those Summer Nights

It's hard for me to pick a favorite season.  I love summer so much, but I could never live somewhere that the seasons don't change.  The musty, warm scents of fall do something good to the very nerves of my brain and the smell of snow in the air sends my heart a-flutter.  Spring is so fresh and alive and full of promise.  I guess rather than pick a favorite season, I'd rather just say that I dislike January 16th (I'll keep the 15th, since it's my sister's birthday and I get to eat cake that day) to March 15th.  Those months are gross and cold and boring.

I guess though, as I've said before, I can't fully appreciate the perfection of a good, hot Maryland summer without those cold and boring months.  And oh how I love summer.  Summer is fun and relaxed and good.  Summer is spontaneous and perfect for "let's call up friends and go do something fun."  Something with food and kids and a cold and frosty nightcap.

Kids and ice-cream.  They take it very seriously, you know.

My friend N made these "Brown Cow" slushies in her ice cream maker.  They were SO good; kind of like a cross between a root beer float and a Slurpee.  Perfect for a hot summer night!

We played outside and laughed until the kids were totally tuckered out.  Later, hubby and I got to enjoy a quiet night at my parents' house enjoying the summer sounds from the adirondack chairs out back.  Perfection.

  1. You weren't kidding when you said you got some good pictures from that night: love Justin's smile, Chloe's eyes, and the daddies having their fun with the kiddos :)
