Camping

A few weeks back, we went camping with some friends.  It was a last minute "let's do this thing" kind of thing.  And while everyone else we knew experienced the worst thunderstorm our area has seen in like 30 years, we hunkered down in a cabin and ate popcorn and tried to play Apples to Apples while many small children bounced off the walls and shrieked and laughed when the thunder clapped.

We played in the river and in the mud and picked raspberries in our jammies.  Kids ran barefoot and wild.  They caught salamanders and fought over Daddy Long Legs.  They went "wading" and it turned into swimming in clothes which turned into swimming in no clothes.  It was the simplest, best getaway and I couldn't have imagined it any better.

I was asked to hold this cup.  I thought it contained snack.  Instead it contained a friend.

That's a salamander.

Don't ask.  It's what she wanted to wear.

Releasing the (ahem...dead) salamander back into the wild.

Ice cream and raspberries.

Throwing rocks was the best game ever.

  1. Love these shots of the girls, especially the last one on Waverly! Charlie sure picked a good outfit the one day ;) The water and rock shots make me want to go to back to Little Bennet State Park---we need to take you there soon!!

All I can think is that I hope that ice cream cup was not the same one as the "friend" was hanging out in. ;)

  4. I love your photos of the girls. They look so free and happy! It's nice that you take Charlie. I know she loves being with you all! They are just so cute. They are both looking too old lately! I don't want them to grow up!!!!!
